RAPAPORT… The
Jewelry Industry Summit, a forum on sustainability and responsible sourcing,
has opened registration for the event, which will be held at the Fashion
Institute of Technology in New York from March 11 to 13 next year.
Industry members can register and find details at www.jewelryindustrysummit.com,
the organizers said in a statement.
The Summit will be
an interactive meeting with large and small discussion groups assisted by
professional facilitators rather than a full schedule of speakers.
“This format contrasts with many conferences, in that its central
purpose is attendee participation,” the statement said.
Those
who register for the summit will gain free entry and badges to JA New York’s
spring show, which in turn will also enable badge holders to visit MJSA Expo
New York, a show for jewelry makers and designers, and Lueur, an antique
jewelry show. All three events commence on March 13 in New York’s Javits
Center.
There has never been an industry-wide consensus
on how stakeholders should view responsible sourcing, according to Lita
Asscher, president of Royal Asscher and a member of the summit’s planning
committee.
