RAPAPORT… The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) awarded five companies certification for meeting the organization’s “highest ethical, human rights, social and environmental standards”.

The firms are the Gem Certification & Assurance Lab, a diamond, gemstone, and jewelry certification laboratory headquartered in New York; French polished diamond distributor Messika Diamonds; Paris-based retailer Christian Dior Couture; precious metals provider Cookson Métaux Precieux – CooksonCLAL; and Indian fancies manufacturer Ashwin Diamonds.

The Christian Dior certification was a renewal of an approval first given in 2012 before the latest codes of practice were released in November 2013.
Four of the verification processes were carried out by SGS United Kingdom, an independent third-party auditing firm accredited by the RJC, while Ashwin was accredited by Bureau Veritas Italia.

The RJC now has 670 members, of which 422 are certified members and 33 have the organization’s Chain-of-Custody certification for gold and platinum group metals.
