The head of the United Nations’ peacekeeping force in Côte d’Ivoire, Bert Koenders, congratulated the country’s new prime minister and the newly-elected president of Parliament and assured them of the mission’s continued support.
Jeannot Ahoussou Kouadio was appointed Cote d’Ivoire’s new Prime Minister, while the National Assembly on Monday elected his predecessor, Guillaume Soro, as the new president of Parliament.
Koenders, who heads the UN Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), said he was convinced that under Soro’s leadership, the National Assembly would be a place of democratic debate.
The UN envoy in Cote d’Ivoire has praised many successes of late including, renewed nation security, social cohesion, national reconciliation and economic recovery.
