RAPAPORT… Farai Maguwu, the director of the Centre for Research and Development, was granted bail in Zimbabwe after spending more than one month in jail, based upon state allegations that he had given false information to Kimberley Process (KP) monitor Abbey Chikane. Maguwu had been denied bail twice before. Major human rights groups have repeatedly called for his release.

The Associated Press reported today that Maguwu was freed on $1,500 bail on the condition that he surrender his passport, report daily to police and remain within 25 miles of his hometown, Mutare.

Maguwu maintains that he did not give false information to Chikane about the killings and torture conducted at the Marange diamond fields.
