RAPAPORT… The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) formally became a participant in the UN Global Compact. According to RJC, it is committed to changing business operations so that the Global Compact and its 10 principles become part of its strategy, culture and day-to-day operations. The Council promised to publicly advocate for the Global Compact and its principles, and to report annually on the progress it has made in implementing those principles among its members.

“We are aware that collaboration with the Global Compact brings added value to the RJC and its membership by developing synergies relating to responsible business practices of the diamond and gold sectors,” said Michael Rae, the chief executive officer (CEO) of RJC. The Global Compact is a strategic policy-creation initiative for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with acceptable principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption.
