Esau to Chair Kimberley Process for Namibia

RAPAPORT… Bernhard Esau, Namibia’s deputy mining and energy minister, was appointed by the mining minister to chair the Kimberley Process Certificate Scheme for 2009, according to The Namibian newspaper. The appointment sidelined Kennedy Hamutenya, the country’s longtime diamond commissioner, the newspaper noted.

“Minister [Erkki] Nghimtina has expressed confidence in his deputy minister that he will discharge this duty entrusted to him with confidence,” according to an official statement released by the ministry. Namibia took over as chair of the Kimberley Process in 2009.
