Sierra Leone: UN Completes District Officer Training

RAPAPORT… The United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone (UNIOSIL) and the National Electoral Commission have finished training 49 district officers ahead of the August 11, 2007  presidential and parliamentary elections.

UNIOSIL trained officials on polling, sorting, and counting procedures for ballot papers, confirmation of serial numbers on ballot boxes, reconciliation of the votes cast, and the number of registered voters.

The 49 district election officers will be responsible for the training of constituency election monitors, polling center managers, identification officers, and presiding officers at various polling stations nationwide. Some 37,000 staff in total are being prepared now to ensure Sierra Leone’s elections run smoothly and fairly.
