India Bans Rough Imports from Cote d’Ivoire

RAPAPORT… India has imposed a ban on importing rough diamonds from Cote d’Ivoire in compliance with the United Nations Security Council and diamond industry organizations.

“Import of rough diamonds from Cote d’Ivoire shall be prohibited in compliance to Paragraph 6 of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1643 (2005),” a notification by the directorate general of foreign trade stated June 14, 2007.

The United Nations, the World Diamond Council, and the Kimberley Process have placed bans on rough leaving Cote d’Ivoire after having found that exported rough had been funding weapons.
