The Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) was deemed a threat to international peace and security by the United Nations Security Council on September 14, and the council unanimously upheld resolution 1643 (2005,) which, among other things, requires states to prevent the import of all rough diamonds from Côte d’Ivoire into their territory.
The Security Council requested of experts monitoring the country to submit an updated report on the implementation of restrictions on arms, diamonds, and other goods, by December 15, 2006.
