(Rapaport…September 28.2004) A Canadian delegation recently inspected South Africa’s Kimberley Process (KP) facilities, the Sunday Times of Johannesburg reported Sunday.
The delegation, which had been invited, was led by Denis Lagacé, Canada’s natural resources director. It was in South Africa for two days and visited various facilities, including government offices where documentation and licensing issues were checked, and various production sites. Seller and buyer details were also verified using the certificates that are required under the Kimberley Process.
Since the delegation was invited it did not constitute a review mission, which is called if there is a suspicion of noncompliance by any of the process’s 43 members, the newspaper said.
The delegation also had a meeting with De Beers Group representatives and discussed the progress of the implementation of the Kimberley Process.
