(Rapaport…September 10, 2004) The Jewelers of America (JA) association Friday said it has warned jewelry retailers that Amnesty International and other non-governmental organizations may target them during the “Conflict Diamonds Day of Action”, which is due to take place Saturday.
JA said Amnesty is encouraging consumers and activists to enquire about jewelers’ efforts to stop the flow of conflict diamonds, such as participation in the Kimberley Process, a system of controls governing the international trade in diamonds.
