(Rapaport…February 8, 2002) Congressman Tony Hall (D-Ohio) is in negotiations with the White House over his possibly taking an overseas post. Hall is a cosponsor of the Clean Diamonds Trade Act bill that was passed by the House of Representatives last November. The legislation is currently waiting for passage by the Senate.
“If negotiations work out, there will be an announcement from the White House next week, and there will be an appointment for an overseas post,” said Debra De Young, Hall’s senior aide.
De Young would not say anything else about the possible appointment, but added that if it goes through, “it could enhance his ability to focus on the conflict diamond issue.”
