(Rapaport…November 16, 2001) At a meeting on Angola’s civil war, UN undersecretary-general Ibrahium Gambari blamed the UNITA rebels for the continuing conflict and said the council has the responsibility of tightening its sanctions against them. The Security Council vowed to keep the sanctions under close monitoring with a view to improving their effectiveness and urged member states to comply with them.
