(Rapaport…August 29, 2001) Sierra Leone officials said elections will not take place in the country until rebels and pro-government militia groups fulfill pledges to disarm. The process is expected to be completed in November.

Walter Nicol, chairman of the National Electoral Commission, said elections could be held within the next six months.

“We want to see that the conditions are right for holding the elections,” he said.
