(Rapaport…June 27, 2000) The Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) has pledged to make efforts to ensure that conflict diamonds don’t enter Israel.
“This is a matter of conscience, and our standpoint is clear: there is no place in Israel for diamonds paid for in human suffering and death,” said Moshe Schnitzer, chairman of the Israel Diamond Institute.
The IDI is backing the Israel Diamond Exchange’s decision to expel any diamantiare who knowingly trades in conflict diamonds, and reiterated that an expelled diamantaire in Israel means expulsion from all 23 diamond exchanges around the world.
